As I’m sure you’ve heard many times, insurance to keep the ships open is the biggest expense that we have each year. Our premiums are billed quarterly, and earned revenue from Dockside Events in the summer support the payments later in the year. A major goal of our Spring Appeal is to help cover our May and Aug payments. At this time, we are still short of the money needed to cover our August payment.
2024 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the Guild. We have hired several part-time staff, including a Grant Writer, Education Development Director and Vessel Coordinator. This will further the development of our trades education program, our mission to support our ships and volunteers, and the goal for a shipyard home of our own. These are ambitious goals and we will have to work hard to keep the momentum going. If you’ve been down to the ships lately, you’ll have seen how great they look and the positive energy of the many new crew members. With even part-time staff however, comes the need to sustain a payroll.
